My Holinshead family, who were farmers in Hertfordshire, have been traced back to my 5 x great grandparents, William Holinshead (1710 - 1781) and his wife Elizabeth (1707 - 1775). Their family tree can be seen here (you will need to use the 'back' button in your browser to return to this page). Their son William also married an Elizabeth. This couple were my 4 x great grandparents and they lived at Kettlewells Farm, St Albans, Hertfordshire. Three generations of the Holinshead family farmed at Kettlewells Farm. I have found a great deal of helpful information about this family on the Leverstock Green Chronicle website. Another very helpful website for all parts of Hertfordshire is Genealogy in Hertfordshire, run by Chris Reynolds. There is a search facility on the home page, which will search the whole website.

My 3x great grandparents were Thomas Holinshead and his wife Jane. They also lived at Kettlewells Farm. After Thomas' death, Kettlewells was farmed by Thomas and Jane's eldest son Thomas. Thomas and Jane's second son was William Holinshead. He and his wife Hannah (nee Franklin) were my 2 x great grandparents. They farmed at Norcott Hill Farm, Northchurch, Hertfordshire, but retired to Marlowes, Hemel Hempstead, where they were living at the time of the 1881 census.

William and Hannah's eldest son, who was also called William, emigrated to Canada in 1869 and settled in Brunel Township, Huntsville, Ontario. His descendants have been extensively researched by a cousin. More information, including a collection of photographs, is shown on his web site which can be seen here. William and Hannah's second son, Thomas, emigrated to Australia in 1871. My great grandfather was William and Hannah's third son, Walter Moore Holinshead. My grandmother was Annie Katherine Holinshead, the daughter of Walter Moore Holinshead, and his wife Ellen nee Brown. Walter also emigrated to Canada and was living in Brunel Township in 1891. His wife and daughter were not with him. It appears that Walter died in Toronto in 1909. Click here to see some photographs of Annie Katherine, including one with her husband Sidney George Badham. Click here to see photographs of Annie Katherine and Sidney George Badham's shop in Aldershot, and their son's shop in Frome. Click here to go to the Badham family page. Go to the home page. Other names linked to this tree include: Badham, Bailey, Brown, Collyer, Franklin, Hill, Keeble, Lines or Linnes, Pethybridge, Prudames, Raggett, Saunders, Swannell and Searle.
