The Bennett family has been traced back to George Bennett, who was born in about 1772 in Brightwalton (formerly called Brightwaltham) in Berkshire. George married Hannah Crips in 1796. Their family tree can be seen here (you will need to use the 'back' button in your browser to return to this page). They had 9 children including William, my 2 times great grandfather, who was born in 1805 in Brightwalton. William's first wife was Jane Bonner, with whom he had a daughter, Hannah. Jane died in 1829. William's second wife was Lucy Church, with whom he had 3 sons, James, Isaac and Charles. Jane died in 1836, as did her youngest son Charles: they were both buried on 31st January 1836. Isaac died in 1844 and James in 1848. William married again in 1844. The register entry shows that his wife, Harriet Elliott nee Spindloe or Spindelow, was a widow. William and Harriet had a son, Charles. He was born on 15 June 1844, also in Brightwalton. Charles was my great grandfather. He married Sarah Deedman in Aldershot, Hampshire, in 1870. Charles and Sarah lived in Ash, Surrey, where all their children were born. One of their children, my grandfather Alfred Bennett, settled in Aldershot. Charles died on 22 May 1900 and is buried in Ash. Go to the home page. Other names linked to this tree are: Avery, Barney, Breadmore, Clifford, Crip(p)s, Culverhouse, Deedman, Elliot(t), Evance, McDonald, Purchase, Ricketts, Spindelow or Spindloe, Tarrant and Waters.
